High heat, high stakes. As temperatures rise, so does the risk of heat-related illness and overexertion.
🚨 Rotate crews often
🚨 Take breaks in the shade or rehab area
🚨 Use cooling towels or vests
🚨 Report symptoms early — dizziness, cramps, nausea aren’t badges of honor
You can’t help others if you go down. Smart decisions protect everyone on scene.
Rehab Is Not Optional: Prioritize Recovery
Rehab saves lives. It’s not just for recovery — it’s a frontline defense against cardiac events and heat illness.
🛑 Don’t skip it.
👥 Crew leaders — enforce it.
⚠️ Medical monitoring should be standard.
💬 Talk about it like your life depends on it — because it does.
July is prime time to recommit to strong rehab practices. Rest. Rehydrate. Recover.

🚨 SAFETY ADVISORY: Fire Blankets & EV Fires 🚨
The IAFF has issued a critical Safety Advisory urging firefighters NOT to use fire blankets on electric vehicle (EV) fires involving the battery.
🔻 Why?
Although fire blankets can smother flames by cutting off oxygen, they do not stop thermal runaway within EV batteries. This can lead to a dangerous buildup of flammable gases like hydrogen beneath the blanket—posing a serious explosion hazard, especially in confined spaces like parking garages.
📌 Key Takeaways:
The IAFF continues to work alongside UL FSRI and the NFPA to develop science-backed strategies for safely managing EV incidents.
Let’s stay safe and lead with science.
